Hopes were raised last night that four of the five British residents being held at the US base in Guantánamo Bay could soon be released following weeks of discreet negotiations.
According to the BBC, three of the men, Jamil el-Banna, Omar Deghayes and Abdenour Samuer are likely to return to the UK, while a fourth, Shaker Abdur-Raheem Aamer, will return to Saudi Arabia.
